The GERO Research Team is currently involved in multiple projects, all focused on older adults in a variety of areas. These projects include studies that investigate; The working relationships between residential care aides’(RCAs) in long-term care (RCA’s Workplace Relationships), the role of extended-hours adult day centres in supporting people with dementia and their family caregivers in the community, how visual art made for a health care environment can create a sense of meaningful place for older patients and be an inspiring experience for the artist (Making Art for Making Place Study), and how community-based programming can be used to help people with dementia remain active and engaged citizens (Social Citizenship in Dementia).
Our past projects include studies that have involved; The patient experience of and recovery from a minimally-invasive heart procedure (the TAVI Study, AWAKE Study and HEARTS Study), the complexities of how care is negotiated in long-term residential care (RLTC) facilities (the IDEAL Study), how to better support family members of residents living in RLTC facilities ( the SENSE study), the experience of older adults using cannabis for the first time, the development, implementation and evaluation of a specialized evidence-based nursing care program for older adults in hospitals (the GET Study), the structure and activities of Family Councils in RLTC facilities in BC ( Family Council Study) and gaining contextualized understanding of older men’s experiences of mobility in their everyday activities.
