Gloria Puurveen

BA, BMT, MA, PhD

I have recently completed a PhD in the Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program at UBC. Using qualitative methods, my doctoral research focused on the experiences of people with advanced dementia who are nearing the end of life and how care staff and family understood and responded to their social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs.

Gloria will be working on the IDEAL Study.

Heather Cooke

BA, PBD Gero, MA, PhD

With 20 years’ experience in the field of dementia care – in a front-line, volunteer and research capacity – my career path has been greatly influenced by my desire to make a difference in the lives of persons with dementia, their family members, and their caregivers.  I hold a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from UVIC; my doctoral research, which was funded by SSHRC and the Alzheimer Society of Canada, examined the experiences of staff and residents in dementia care settings.  My research interests include the subjective experiences of staff and residents in long-term care, aging and the built environment, and personhood and dementia.

Heather will be working on the IDEAL Study.
